Relflection:
- What did you do for the Passion Project, and why?
In the beginning of this project my partner and I quickly realized what both of us do together almost every weekend, thrift shop. We wanted to put a fun twist on this though. We decided to go out to local thrift stores and, since its spring, walk the streets looking for cool items from spring cleaning, take everything home and upcycle it into things that fit our personal style and aesthetic. Along with doing this, we thought it would be cool if we recorded all that we were doing, make a video, and post it to YouTube to inspire others to go out and get similar items, but then to customize it to their own style. My partner and I did this for our project because we do this out of school anyway. We are always going out to the thrift stores, buying things and personalizing them. We realized that when you are thrifting, it is fun to try new things and you don’t feel guilty because everything is super inexpensive. We thought that this was the perfect opportunity to try new things. We had never reupholstered a chair or made a pillowcase, or even re-sized a dress. I would say that we are passionate about this because we are motivated to continue this throughout the summer and expand on what we do. - What challenges did you encounter during this project? How did you overcome them?
During this project, we definitely had some challenges. Most being related to our partnership. We both wanted to do things and at some points, could not agree on what to do for certain situations. It is very helpful to have a partner, but you need to accommodate for both of your needs. We both (mostly me) wanted to take over and do all of the work. I think that to fix this, we could have each bought things that we wanted to do and worked on them separately instead of buying items that we could only work on together. We also had a bit of an issue with procrastination. We would want to go home after school and work on something, then after school we would end up being completely drained and exhausted and then just sit there and talk to each other instead of working on the project. I think that if we hadn’t done this, we could have had a couple more products to show at exhibition. But in the long run we are very proud of what we accomplished and we are both very excited to see where we take this next. - What will you do with this project next?
We have thought a lot about what we want to do with this project next. We have also gotten lots of suggestions on what websites we should sell products on. With that our next step is to sell things. I think we need to do more products, and do some research on different websites, but currently we are thinking about selling on either, Etsy, DePop, or making our own personal website. Also we definitely want to expand on our YouTube channel. We want to make more videos and see where it goes and hopefully we will get more likes/subscribers etc. and then we can buy a more professional editing application. We definitely see a future with this little “business” and I think that this will go far.
