Socialization and Mask Project
For this project, we researched what socialization and how people were socialized based on who they were. We then started to write the essay on how we were socialized and also started to make and paint our masks based on how we were socialized. For the exhibition, we first went through drawing various prototypes on how we think the exhibition should be. Once we voted on what the exhibition should be, we broke into groups with designers, actors and videographers. Together we built the beginning of the cycle of socialization. For the exhibition people got a mask with “who they were” on it and walked through the cycle.
Project and Exhibition Reflection
- The biggest reason is that I “learned” how to research, in the past I have never liked researching, but being in Sara’s class, I have grown to know how to research more efficiently.
- The largest thing that I am taking away from this whole project is just how I respect and see myself vs. others and how we group up is reflected on how people look at us. I am taking away just to respect everyone no matter how they were born and to not stereotype people.
- My goals as a group worker were to try and be more of a leader and less of a follower. And although that was my goal, it was still a struggle of mine throughout the process of building the exhibition. A strength throughout the process was creative thinking, I think this because although I didn’t voice my opinion as much as I would have liked to but overall I was coming up with good ideas and thinking creatively.
- As a group member, I just basically did what I was told and occasionally gave my ideas. If I were to grade myself on how my effort was, I would give myself a B+orA. I think this because I tried hard to make our part of the exhibition look professional and not childish.
