Strengths:
Creative Thinking: I think I am a creative thinker because I like to make things out of the box. I think that when the final product is actually beautiful, it makes it ten times better. To be a creative thinker means to look at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions. Collaboration: I think I am good at collaboration because, I like all of the work to be equal. It is not as fun when you have less or more to do than your group members. Collaborating is when you and your group members are all on the same page about what you are doing, and it works out when you all know exactly what you have to do to make the end result beautiful work. Weaknesses: Leadership: I think that I am not good at leadership because I don’t like to tell people what to do. I would rather be told what to do. Leadership is when you are basically in charge of what your group is doing and you are leading it to success. Although it is good to have a leader, leadership and collaboration go hand in hand. The leader tells you what to do and then the group works together to get things done.

In this project I wish to see that the exhibition is very professional and fun at the same time. I think it will be very educational if we all put in our best effort to teach the public about socialization, while also having fun and walking through the cycle of socialization. I also think that it will make a big impact if lots of people show up. The more people that show up, the more of an impact there is going to be because people are going to come, and then go teach others about socialization.
What I hope to hear a parent say after attending our exhibition is something like “I learned a lot”. From a sociology professor, something along the lines of, “You guys seem to know what you are talking about. I think that these would be good things to hear because it would be good to know that our parents are looking at things differently and that a professor would be impressed that we know these things at such a young age compared to some older people that don’t know anything about it. I think that we don’t really think that we need to “make sure” that our information is accurate because we already know that it is because the teachers wouldn’t have given us inaccurate information. In this project our first task was to learn about socialization, we spent a while learning about it, reading and watching videos about the different agents (i.e. gender, age, religion, race ability, disability, sexual orientation and economic class) and how you grow up being socialized. We then read a book called Mexican Whiteboy, it was about how two boys, Uno and Danny, were socialized. After learning about socialization, we made masks and wrote essays about how we were socialized. Since then, we have been working on our exhibition. This year the teachers decided that they wanted the exhibition to be more than just standing, repeating the same thing over and over, and just presenting our essays and masks, and make it more exciting, interactive and actually show what we have been learning, and also teach the community, our parents and everyone who came to the exhibition about socialization.
Basically, this exhibition is trying to address that we are made into ourselves, through media, school, peers, our parents and our religion. So we will be walking through the cycle of socialization and learning about how you are socialized according to those agents. People will be learning that we basically don’t make our own decisions. I am most excited about building the exhibition, I want it to be beautiful and fun to learn and teach in. I want to work on actually building things to put in the exhibition, like desks and hallways. I think that working with the groups and voting on what we were going to do for the exhibition, was actually helpful so that we have more ideas for what we are going to do for the exhibition. |
